Copenhagen holiday experiences
- Perhaps the most famous attraction in Copenhagen is Edvard Eriksen’s sculpture of the Little Mermaid, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story of the same name. It can be found at Copenhagen harbour, as she sits on a rock and gazes out to sea. The Little Mermaid isn’t Copenhagen’s only link with literature, however, and you can also visit Kronburg Castle, which is known from Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Hamlet. During the summer there are open-air performances of the play, although you can visit the castle at other times too.
- The city is also known for its museums and galleries and paintings by some of the most renowned artists can be found hanging on its walls. Matisse, Picasso and Rembrandt all have works housed at the Danish National Gallery, while you can view modern Scandinavian art at the Arken Museum of Modern Art.
- Outdoors there is plenty to see and do as well. You can climb the Rundetårn to reach the observation platform — from here you have unparalleled views of the city. Or, if the beach is more for you, take a trip to Havnebadet at Island Brygge. This is an outdoor pool and beach area that’s incredibly popular with families. You could also visit Tivoli Gardens where there is live music every day. You could also take a ride on the century-old roller coaster, or during the summer months watch films in the open air.
- Foodies taking a Copenhagen culinary package will find Copenhagen a rich source of enjoyment. There are Michelin-starred restaurants in the city for a truly sublime experience, or you can try some traditional Danish cuisine, such as the Smørrebrød - an open sandwich.
