- Munich is known as a ‘city of palaces’ thanks to its fabulous historic buildings. The main attraction is Residenzmuseum, which was home to the rulers of Bavaria from 1508 until the beginning of the First World War. Tours will take you from the Grotto Court around the rooms of the palace, taking in the iconic Perseus fountain. Another fabulous building is Schloss Nymphenburg, which was once home to the Bavarian kings and is now filled with multiple museums that display fine art and Bavarian treasures.
- If the history of cars is more your thing, the BMW Welt and Museum is definitely worth visiting. Next to the Olympiapark, you can view some of the world’s best cars and motorbikes, as well as learning the history of the BMW brand. There are also options to tour the factory on certain days.
- Germany is famous for its football, and Munich is no exception. The Allianz Arena is home to two teams: Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 München. Bayern Munich is Germany’s most successful football club and has won the German championship a record 24 times. If you’re in Munich during the football season, it’s well worth getting tickets to a home game.
- When you’re done touring the sights of the city, you’ll want your Munich culinary package to begin. Bavarian cuisine is what often gets viewed as German cuisine around the world and, as such, is very recognisable to tourists. Treat yourself to sweet pies and pastries that can be found in bakeries right across Munich, and are an excellent example of traditional Bavarian baking.
