    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Best time to travel to Botswana for a holiday?
      +
      –
Botswana has a very dry and arid climate, and while it is a year round destination, the best time to experience the country at its greenest and most beautiful is during April and May and December to March. Bear in mind that night-time temperatures in the Kalahari Desert will be considerably cooler than you may realise, so if you are travelling into the desert make sure you’re prepared for this. The rainy season is between December and March, when average minimum temperatures are in the low 20s°C. The hottest time of the year is during September and October, when temperatures regularly climb into the 40s°C. However, this is also the best time for wildlife spotting.
How do you get around Botswana?
      +
      –
There are regular bus services from Johannesburg to Gaborone, as well as buses from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Namibia. However, the best way to get around is to hire a car, as the roads are excellent and well maintained. Do watch out for the wildlife that tends to stray onto the roads, though. You can also travel by train if you enjoy a real travel adventure. Botswana Railways runs from Lobatse via Gaborone to Francistown on the Zimbabwean border.
