Larnaca holiday experiences
- Larnaca itself is a relatively small town and you will find most of the Larnaca luxury hotels are at the edge of the beach and in the various resort towns of Cyprus. These will have everything you need for a holiday in the sun, including swimming pools, restaurants, and spas as well as easy access to the beaches. The principle resorts outside Larnaca include Protaras, Nissi Beach, Ayia Napa and Pernera and all have their different attractions, from rugged coastlines to vibrant nightlife.
- As well as relaxing by the pool or on the beach, Larnaca has many great excursions, such as a trip to the ghost town of Varosha, deserted since the 1970s, or a boat ride to Cape Greco, a glorious nature park that’s protected from development. The Larnaca Salt Lake is just outside the city itself and is home to beautiful flocks of pink flamingoes. It’s also the site of the Hala Sultan Tekke, a famous mosque at the edge of the Salt Lake.
- If you prefer to take to the water, there are plenty of places to hire diving equipment. Most divers in the area dive to see the iconic wreck of the Zenobia, a ferry that sunk in the 1980s, still laden with lorries and their loads. And if you’re looking for something to keep the kids entertained, the WOW Action Park is a play centre where kids never seem to get bored while the adults can relax with refreshments.
- If you’re taking a Larnaca culinary package, you can find plenty of fine food in the city and the outlying resorts. Seafood is particularly delicious thanks to the local fishing trade and many restaurants cater to families.
