Belgium holiday experiences
- Visit the Hallerbos Forest between April and May, and you’ll be treated to the sight of hundreds of thousands of bluebells coming into bloom. Coating the forest floor in a carpet of violet and filling the air with a delicate perfume, it’s a tranquil way to spend a day.
- For something really different, take a trip to the town of Binche to watch the Mari Gras celebrations. You’ll see figures, dressed as Pierrot-style clowns wandering through the town and hurling oranges at the crowds.
- Ghent holds its own jazz festival, for four days in July. Almost every venue in the town is transformed into a performance space. Previous headliners have included the likes of Tony Bennet and Gregory Porter.
- If you’re intent on sampling Belgian food in all its forms, head to Brussels in May, for the annual Food Truck Festival. Hundreds of food trucks line the streets, each serving their own specialities.
