    South Korea holiday experiences

    • In Seoul you can walk the 600-year-old city walls, hike to the top of one of the guardian mountains and look down on the city, or walk around the alleys lined with the traditional wooden homes in Bukchon. Since the Korean War 60 years ago, the city has boomed with contemporary architecture, design, pop-culture, and stylish boutiques. When you have tired yourself out exploring this exciting metropolis, you can revive your flagging spirits in one of the cool cafés scattered around Seoul.
    • Seoul is a foodie’s paradise, you can eat like a king or like a peasant and still feel as if you have eaten foods from the gods. If you decide on a hanjeongsik you will enjoy a multicourse banquet that is as much of a feast for the eyes as it is for the belly. If you are after something smaller head to the Noryangjin Fish Market and try fresh and fiery crab soup.
    • Head to the World Heritage site of Changdeokgung, one of Seoul’s four main palaces and is arguably the most beautiful. It was built in 1405 and was used as the primary residence for the royal family from 1972 to well into the 20th century.
    • South Korea will host the winter Olympics in 2018 and Pyeongchang county has two main ski resorts, Alpensia and Yongpyong, which you can ski right now. Alpensia is best for cross-country skiing, while Yongpyong is all about downhill skiing and it is one of North East Asia’s best ski resorts.
    • Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city and is all about mountains, beaches, hot springs, seafood, designer cafés and an international Film Festival. It is a cultural hotspot with a desire to become a global meeting place, and definitely one to put onto your itinerary.
