Borjomi & Vardzia From Tbilisi - Private

Starting from AED 1,350

Description

We will visit Borjomi Park, where the famous mineral spring water Borjomi gushes out straight from the ground. Then we will make our way towards the town nestled in a cliff, Vardzia (12th century), which is a true apotheosis of medieval Georgian architecture and a must-see. On the way we will pass through the beautiful landscapes of Mtkvari Valley, come across terraces from the Middle Ages, which formerly were used for orchards and vineyards. Also on the way, we will make a photo stop at the impressive Khertvisi Fortress (10th century). Vardzia used to house 50,000 inhabitants and consisted of 9 huge stories.

Earthquakes and invaders have devastated the city for centuries, though today old churches, refectories, wine cellars, dwelling quarters, a pharmacy and more are preserved here. The highlight of the day is the 12th century church of the Virgin Mary, in which we can find unique frescoes, including a distinguished person for Georgians, the frescoe of King Tamar, which was completed during her lifetime. We can leave the city via ancient, medieval tunnels.

Drive to Tbilisi via Tsalka. The amazing yet bare landscapes of the Lesser Caucasus’ volcanic plateau will emerge on the way filled with large blue lakes and wide valleys. Here you can often see shepherds with their herds.
Borjomi is known globally for its briny mineral water, bottled from ancient volcanic sulfur springs. Within Georgia, the spa town’s proximity to Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park and close connection to the Bakuriani Ski Resort has safeguarded its popularity as a holiday destination for almost 200 years.
